Sign-ups for Summer Reading (babies to grade 5) began June 17th!

We have a very exciting summer reading program this year!  Multiple programs for all age groups (babies through Teens). Win prizes by reading, being read to, and attending programs at our library!

We have fabulous prizes provided by the Friends of the Westminster Library which include raffle prizes (Legos, Mine Craft, Peppa Pig Set, Gift Certificates, etc,), toy chest selections,  and brand new prize books. The Town House of Pizza has also generously offered pizza coupons as a prize again this year.

Sign-up takes only a few minutes. Pick-up a calendar of all the special programs we have scheduled for each age group.

For more information, please contact the children’s room at 978-874-7416.

Please note: Grades 6 – 12 (ages 11 – 18) have their own summer reading program. Information about that program is posted in the Teen and Tween News section on the Home page.

Summer reading programs encourage good reading habits and prevent “the summer slide,” i.e. the loss in academic skills and knowledge over the course of summer vacation.

There’s so much for children to do at Forbush Memorial Library. We have an incredible book collection, CD’s, an extensive audio-book collection, magazines, and parenting books.

Our library staff is always willing to help you find the materials you would like to borrow for your child.

Storytimes are another great way to for your children to discover books and authors they enjoy. Detailed information about our current storytimes is outlined below in the Storytimes section.

Storytimes are a great way to help your child get excited about books and reading. Some storytimes include a craft or a snack. Crafts are generally designed for children age 3 and older.  Color pages may be provided for younger children. It is up to the parent/caregiver to determine the appropriateness of the craft.

Our current storytime schedule is as follows:

Thursdays, Baby and Toddler Program, 10:15 AM.  This 30 minute program includes songs, stories, rhymes, fingerplays, and movement. Siblings are welcome and no registration is required.  Please Note: There will not be a Baby and Toddler program on Thursday, July 2oth.  We hope you will attend the special music program at 11 AM – Moving to the Music with Julie Stepanek on that date.

Wednesday, July 19th, & Thursday, July 27th: 11 AM.  Special summer reading program storytimes will feature themed stories and a themed craft.   No registration is required.  Crafts are designed for children ages 3 and older.  Supplies are limited to those on hand.  Additional dates may be added.  Please check the Calendar of Events on this website for the most up-to-date information.

No registration is required for our storytimes.

Always feel free to contact the Children’s Librarian, Amy D. Kuilema at 978-874-7416 or for more information.

We currently have two computers that can be used to access our online catalog or for internet access for children in the 5th grade or under. A parent or guardian must supervise the children and sign a permission form. Please read the Internet Access Policy here

Discovering the night sky and planets with a child can be an extremely exciting and educational experience!  The Children’s Room has many books and guides to assist you in your exploration.  Your child’s imagination might also be sparked to explore storybooks featuring out-of-this-world characters!

The library’s high-powered telescope is now available for loan to any interested Westminster resident. Reservations for a week’s borrowing can be made at the main circulation desk or by calling 978-874-7416 during library hours.  You do not have to be a Westminster resident to reserve the telescope.
