Miles City

The Forbush Memorial Library sent a digital image of the 1878 watercolor of Miles City, MT. to that city for enlargement as part of their revitalization of a downtown park. The small watercolor was painted by Hermann Syieffel, a soldier serving under Gen. Nelson A. Miles, a native of Westminster, during the Indian wars in the West.

The image, showing the first houses and stores at a ferry crossing, has been enlarged to 8’ by 14’ and is now displayed in Riverside Park, the exact site where the watercolor was done 137 years ago.
